Putting the “hair” in charity, the world-renowned Mid-Atlantic Beard & ‘Stache Championships facial hair competition is back! After hosting the Remington Beard Boss 2018 Great American Beard & Moustache Championship and raising a record-breaking $25,220 for charity and the CouchVid-20 Online Beard & 'Stache Competition, the RVA Beard League invites you to be a part of one of the best beard competitions in the country!
Join us on April 23, 2022 at the Canal Club in Richmond, Virginia for the Mid-Atlantic Beard & ‘Stache Championships 008, to benefit Shine For Scott, a non-profit that works to support, educate, detect, and cure colorectal cancer. We’re proud to support their programs as an important part of the broader battle against cancers of all types. This year’s Championships is poised to break the $100,000 mark for total donations made by the RVA Beard League, and we’d love for you to be a part of it!
The Mid-Atlantic Beard & ‘Stache Championships consists of 15 categories and a Best In Show award representing a diverse array of facial hair styles and lengths, including two categories for fake beards so that everyone — including ladies, kids, and the (in)voluntarily shaven — can join in the fun! We provide no cash awards, just trophies and bragging rights, that way all of the money raised goes to the charity.
For field agents who are deep undercover at their posts, aren’t able to rendezvous with the other agents on April 23, or even those who are attending in person and want a second shot at a title, now's your chance to earn a promotion and get a titled position at The Agency with our online-only Agent Field Promotion categories. Competitors who sign up for these categories will submit photos and a video of themselves online ahead of time and are evaluated by our panel of on-stage judges in the days leading up to our on-stage competition!
From Richmond With Love...you can now pre-order your MABSC 008 event shirt and pick it up at the Welcome Party Friday or at the comp on Saturday. For when you want to say: “I want to be formal, but I’m here to party”.
Just head to the RVA Beard League Merch-O-Rama site.
Frequent updates for the MABSC 008 will be made on the Mid-Atlantic Championships' Facebook Event page. Be sure to click that you’re Going, then share it and tell other agents for an opportunity to rise in rank.
Shine For Scott was founded in late 2010 following the death of the organization’s namesake, Scott Walden. Scott passed away from colon cancer on June 3, 2010, eighteen months after his initial diagnosis. He was just 40 years old. After his diagnosis, it quickly became evident to Scott, his family, and his friends that Scott had several barriers to overcome as a young person dealing with this disease.
First, there was a lack of understanding and knowledge regarding the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of colorectal cancer. After all, people under 50 don’t get colon cancer, right? Wrong.
Second, there was very little financial assistance available for middle-aged and middle income individuals faced with a debilitating disease. Third, there were not as many medical treatments for colorectal cancer as there were for other types of cancers. It was these barriers that ultimately took Scott from his family and friends far too soon. So, using Scott’s experience as their framework, the members of Shine For Scott decided they wanted to break down those barriers that stood in Scott’s way and light a path to a brighter future for young people affected by colon cancer.
